Pride to Stay in Hartford

Tyler Jones re-signed as head coach
2000.09.07
After five months of speculation, the Connecticut Pride announced today that they are staying in Hartford. The news came at a 12:00 p.m. press conference at the Hastings International Conference Center in downtown Hartford.
A group of approximately 75 sponsors and season ticket holders were in attendance at the event. The head table included such distinguished guests as CBA President Don Welsh, CBA Executive Vice President David Campbell and Hartford Mayor Mike Peters. Pride Chief Operating Officer Mike Barham moderated the event.
"I've been waiting to say this to everybody for a long time now. The Connecticut Pride isn't moving anywhere," Barham said. "I'm happy to announce we're staying in Hartford.
"I'd like to also take this opportunity to thank Mayor Mike and all our faithful fans and corporate partners for their support, because without them this wouldn't have been possible."
Today's announcement also means that the Pride will continue to call the State Armory in Hartford their home arena. Over the past two seasons, the Pride have enjoyed a 46-10 record in the 3,032-seat venue. Connecticut opens up its 2000-01 season at Grand Rapids on Friday, Dec. 15. The Pride's home opener will be on Monday, Dec. 18, against La Crosse.
"This tip-off was long overdue, now it's time for us to go ahead and make this happen," Barham said. "This was an exceptional event to have the mayor and some of our corporate season ticket holders in the same room. Now the next step is to build upon what we started in that room, so that we can truly establish the CBA in the Hartford market."
In other Pride news, today the team also announced that Tyler Jones has re-signed as head coach for the 2000-01 season. The East Hartford, Conn., native, who earned CBA Coach of the Year honors after leading the Pride to its first-ever league title in 1998-99, returns for his fourth season with Connecticut. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
"I am happy for my son, my parents, and the city of Hartford today," Jones said. "I'm also thrilled at having the opportunity to lead this team for another season. The CBA is about dreams, and right now I'm living my dream, coaching professional basketball in Hartford."
Jones has compiled a 92-76 record (.548 winning percentage) in three seasons with the Pride. In that time Connecticut has earned three straight CBA playoff appearances.
