New Radio Deal for Pride
Forty-Six games to be broadcast on WMRD & WLIS
2000.10.25
The Connecticut Pride have signed a contract with WMRD 1150 AM (Middletown) and WLIS 1420 AM (Old Saybrook) to air 46 of the team's games during the 2000-01 season, it was announced today by Pride Chief Operating Officer Mike Barham. The deal will allow Pride fans the opportunity to hear and cheer their team on the radio for the first time since the 1995-96 season.
"I am excited that fans throughout Hartford will be able to listen to Pride basketball action on the radio," Barham said. "It offers a way for fans to follow the team when unable to attend a game or when the team is on the road. This is an important step for us and I think it exemplifies our commitment towards expanding and completing this product."
The 46 contests (24 home and 22 road) heard over both WMRD and WLIS will form a signal that reaches as far south as Long Island and as far north as Windsor. "WMRD/WLIS are thrilled to be working with the Pride this season and to be bringing their games to our audience," said WMRD/WLIS President/General Manager Don DeCesare. "We look forward to continued success of the team and our partnership."
All home action will be called by first year play-by-play announcer Dan Hymowitz. "I am incredibly excited to have this opportunity," said Hymowitz. "I hope to bring a quality play-by-play call to these broadcasts where I can convey my passion for the game of basketball."
The 22 road games carried on WMRD/WLIS will be called by the play-by-play announcer of the Pride's opponent.
The first broadcast will be Friday, Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. when the Pride open their 2000-01 season at Grand Rapids.
