McKie and Thomas Capture Player of the Week Honors

Connecticut Pride The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Connecticut Pride guard BJ McKie was named American Conference Player of the Week and Quad City Thunder forward Jamel Thomas earned National Conference Player of the Week honors for the period of Jan. 7-13.

McKie, a 6-foot-2 product of South Carolina ('99) who is in his second CBA season, averaged 20.8 points and 5.8 assists per game to capture the first CBA Player of the Week award of his career. McKie shot 20 for 22 (.910) from the free throw line in leading the Pride to a 3-1 mark for the week.

In addition, McKie also connected on 28-of-52 (.538) from the field and shot 7 for 16 (.438) from behind the arc. His week commenced with a career-high, 27-point performance versus Fort Wayne on Jan. 7, and closed with a 23-point, six-assist outing in leading Connecticut to a 99-92 victory over the Yakima Sun Kings on Jan. 13.

Thomas, the 6-foot-6 Providence ('99) standout, averaged 25.3 points (1st in CBA), 5.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.3 steals (9th in league) while shooting 31 for 56 from the field (.554, 9th in CBA). His efforts helped the Quad City Thunder to a 2-1 mark for the week.

Thomas equaled the second-best point performance in the CBA this year with 35 points versus La Crosse on January 12. Thomas, who was named CBA Rookie of the Year in 1999-2000, also earned his first career Player of the Week accolade.

Other players receiving consideration for American Conference honors were Grand Rapids' Sean Colson (23 ppg, 7 apg), Gary's Ed Cota (15.3 ppg, 5.5 apg) and Courtney James (15 ppg, 8.5 rpg), Fort Wayne's Artie Griffin (16.7 ppg, 5.7 rpg), and Connecticut's Kirk King (13.3 ppg, 13.8 rpg). The four players also receiving consideration in the National Conference were La Crosse's Lazaro Borrell (15.6 ppg, 13.3 rpg), Quad City's Chris Garner (18 ppg, 5 spg), Yakima's Johnny Rhodes (24 ppg, 3.5 spg), and Sioux Falls' Bryant Smith (24.3 ppg, .862 FT%).



CBA SHORTS: On January 17, 1998, the Connecticut Pride's Adrian Griffin earned American Conference Player of the Week honors after posting 16.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Griffin is in his second NBA season and is currently a member of the Boston Celtics.
